Driver flips car after fleeing from traffic stop in northern Arizona

The driver fled from a traffic stop and later flipped his car onto its roof.

MOHAVE COUNTY, Ariz. — An Arizona man is facing felony charges after he attempted to flee from sheriff's deputies and ended up flipping his vehicle near Fort Mohave.

On March 9 at about 9:30 p.m., Mohave County sheriff's deputies observed a speeding vehicle near Highway 95 and Joy Lane. They conducted a traffic stop and realized the driver, identified as 31-year-old Javier Garibay Jr., had a warrant out for his arrest.

The deputy informed the driver to exit the vehicle because he was under arrest. Garibay allegedly did not comply and accelerated the vehicle, dragging the deputy for about 10 feet before the deputy removed his arm from the car. The deputy did not report any injuries.

Other deputies found the suspect's car speeding along Highway 95 before the driver lost control and flipped the vehicle onto its roof. Garibay then exited the wrecked car and ran into the desert, the sheriff's office said.

Deputies later took Garibay into custody and is facing charges of unlawful flight, endangerment and aggravated assault against an officer.
