CASA GRANDE, Ariz. — Nearly two months ago, a Catholic church in Casa Grande was damaged in a fire and police are now asking for help finding the person who set that fire.
On Oct. 18, St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, near Second and Marshall streets, was heavily damaged by a fire, which started just after midnight near the electronic and music area.
At the time, the Casa Grande Fire Department told 12News that the fire caused heavy damage to the worship space, storage areas, hallways and pews on the south side of the church.
The department did say at the time they did not believe that foul play was involved, but that has now changed after Casa Grande police released surveillance video of a person they believe set the fire on Facebook.
Since the fire, the church has been meeting for mass in their community center.
Casa Grande police said they have been working with the fire department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms while investigating this fire and they believe the person in the video above is responsible for setting the fire.
If you know anything about the fire or the person who is seen in this video, you are asked to contact Detective Alex Teitelbaum by calling him at (520) 421-8711 ext. 6017 or by sending him an email at Alex_Teitelbaum@casagrandeaz.gov.
