Man sentenced to 12 years after being caught with 90,000 fentanyl pills in Scottsdale

The 44-year-old man pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute fentanyl.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — A 44-year-old man was sentenced last week to 12 years in federal prison after he was caught with a large amount of fentanyl-laced pills in the Valley.

Pilar Angel Leon-Beltran of Sinaloa, Mexico was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute fentanyl, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office of Arizona.

In April 2022, Leon-Beltran and three others traveled from Tucson to the Valley. Federal agents and state troopers stopped the group in Scottsdale and found them in possession of 90,000 counterfeit oxycodone pills containing fentanyl.

Leon-Beltran was allegedly in possession of a loaded firearm at the time of the offense, prosecutors said.

Two of the other conspirators have already been sentenced to prison.
