Sheriff: Suspect stole truck hauling 10 cars in Arizona because he needed ride home

The 23-year-old suspect allegedly threw the truck driver out of the cab and drove off in the large truck hauling 10 cars.

COCHISE COUNTY, Ariz. — A 23-year-old man was arrested Thursday in southern Arizona after he allegedly stole a truck hauling over $1 million worth of vehicles.

The Cochise County Sheriff's Office said the incident began at the Willcox Loves Truck Stop after Isaiah Walker approached a driver about their truckload. As the victim entered the cab, Walker allegedly threw him out and got in the truck.

Walker then allegedly locked the door and drove off with the truck that was carrying 10 Chevrolet C8 Corvettes, CCSO said.

A deputy attempted to stop the stolen truck near Fort Grant Road and Browns Market but the suspect allegedly proceeded to drive recklessly on the roadway.

The truck eventually came to a stop after turning onto County Line Road. Walker was taken into custody by the deputy and Willcox police and allegedly told investigators he stole the truck because he needed a way to "get home," CCSO said.

The sheriff's office said Walker is facing 11 counts of vehicle theft.

"The deputy and officer showed great restraint and patience in bringing a serious crime to a peaceful resolution, all while keeping the property of others from being damaged," Willcox Police Chief Dale Hadfield said in a statement. "The stolen vehicle was safely recovered without damage and was released to the driver so he could continue his delivery.
