PHOENIX — The roommates of a Phoenix man murdered last year have recently pleaded guilty to hindering the prosecution.
Cory Young and Shannon Higgins have admitted to hindering law enforcement following the death of their roommate, 49-year-old Jake Kelly, on Sept. 8, 2023.
Young entered into a plea agreement this week in court and is facing multiple years in prison. Higgins pleaded guilty last month and is awaiting sentencing.
Kelly sustained multiple skull and rib fractures before he was found unresponsive in a driveway near Cave Creek Road and Grovers Avenue on the night of Aug. 27.
Court records show Kelly's roommates allegedly waited several hours before taking the wounded man to a hospital. The defendants were allegedly captured in a photo showing a bleeding Jake on the ground, records show.
A third individual, 34-year-old Angel Mullooly, has been charged with killing Kelly and Mullooly's case is still pending.
According to Young's attorney, the defendant has admitted to concealing Mullooly's identity and address to law enforcement as Kelly's case was being investigated.
