SURPRISE, Ariz. — A 33-year-old man died after being shot multiple times on 163rd Avenue near Grand Avenue in Surprise on Saturday afternoon, according to the Surprise Police Department

An 18-year-old man, later identified as Jaidev Christian Spicely who police said is the shooter, is in custody.

First responders were called to the area just before 2 p.m. and found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds and started CPR. The victim, later identified as James Nicholas Solano-Aguilar, was taken to a nearby hospital and later died.

Solano-Aguilar was an active military member and we are coordinating resources for his family in partnership with the United States Army, police said.

Numerous witnesses said the shooting may have been related to a road rage incident, police said.

Police used cameras in the area to identify Spicely as the shooter and then traveled to his home to take him into custody. Spicely called to turn himself in as officers were on the way to his home, police said.

Spicely is facing multiple charges including 2nd-degree murder, disorderly conduct with a weapon and discharging a firearm within city limits.

Surprise police encourage anyone who encounters aggressive behavior on the road to remain calm and not to engage or retaliate. If you feel threatened or witness dangerous driving behavior, do not hesitate to call the police.

All north and southbound lanes on 163rd Avenue from Grand Avenue to Pat Tillman Boulevard were closed for about five hours and re-opened at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call the Surprise Police Department at 623-222-4000, or 623-222-TIPS (8477) or email crimetips@surpriseaz.gov.
