Reward raised for suspect arrest after Valley dog set on fire, now $9K

PHOENIX — The reward for information that leads to an arrest after a dog was set on fire and burned alive is $9,000.

On the morning of March 5, Duke was sleeping in his backyard when an unknown person poured gas on the dog and his bed and set both on fire.

The 16-year-old pit bull/Mastiff mix was so severely injured that he had to be put to sleep, authorities said.

The incident occurred at around 5:30 a.m. near 27th Avenue and Washington Street.

Police are seeking a suspect and asking anyone who might have information to come forward.

The reward was increased from $4,000 to $9,000 with a donation from PETA.

Calls to Silent Witness are answered 24/7 by a live person and submitted tips are accepted at all times. Submitted tips are then sent to the detective(s) in charge of the specific case.

Individuals who submit tips that lead to an arrest or indictment in the case can get a reward of up to $1,000.
