Phoenix PD: Suspect shot after running at police officers while holding gun

Police said the incident happened Tuesday afternoon near 35th Avenue and Bell Road.

PHOENIX — A suspect involved in a police shooting is being treated at the hospital for a gunshot wound, according to the Phoenix Police Department. Police said the individual, a male, has life-threatening injuries.

The incident happened Tuesday afternoon near 35th Avenue and Bell Road in north Phoenix. 

In a news conference following the shooting police said officers were called to the area following a report of two people, one of them waving a gun around.

Upon arrival, officers found two people who matched the description provided in the initial report.

According to police, one of the individual ran at officers with a gun in his hand just after the officers arrived. The individual was shot right afterwards.

Police said officers immediately began to render aid the individual.

Police have not released the person's name. Police said the individual did not have identification.

According to police, the second individual, an adult male, is currently in police custody. That individual is being questioned by detectives.

No officers were injured, police said.
