PHOENIX — The Phoenix Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting in west Phoenix. Police said the suspect in the shooting has died.
The incident happened Sunday evening around 6:45 p.m., near 43rd Avenue and Encanto Boulevard, according to police.
According to police, the officer-involved shooting happened after a medical call in which a woman was shot.
Police said the Phoenix Fire Department first arrived on scene for the medical call and police responded about four minutes later for a shooting call.
As police were investigating the shooting, a man on scene was pointed out to them as a possible suspect. Officers approached the man, identified as 42-year-old James Saucedo, to arrest him and he pulled out a handgun. There was a struggle for the gun, at which time the man was fatally shot.
Police said the woman is receiving medical treatment at an area hospital. Her injuries are considered non-life-threatening.
