Police find 44 shell casings at the scene of a shootout in a Glendale neighborhood

A video circulating on social media shows an exchange of gunfire like something out of a warzone, not an Arizona neighborhood.

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Surveillance video from a Glendale home is making the rounds on social media, depicting a shootout like something out of a warzone over the weekend. Glendale police say they are investigating the shooting between multiple people that is any but ordinary.

It happened on Dec. 7, near the intersection of 63rd Avenue and Oregon Avenue in south Glendale. Police say they arrived on scene within minutes and found 44 spent shell casings from multiple different gun calibers.

A video from a home in the area shows the sequence of events unfold in less than a minute. A white sedan pulls into the driveway of a home on Oregon Avenue. At least one person gets out of the car and an argument with someone in the home ensues.

Multiple gunshots can be heard before the car backs out of the driveway at a high rate of speed. From the direction of the home, a person comes running out and empties a clip from what sounds like an automatic weapon in the direction of the sedan. The sedan speeds away and doesn't return.

Glendale police are now tasked with investigating a victimless crime. According to Sgt. Bryan Hoskin, there have been no reports of victims with gunshot wounds, and nobody has come forward to them besides neighbors who phoned the shooting in.

"Things happen all over the Valley that are similar to this, but of this magnitude, I feel is pretty rare incident," Sgt. Hoskin said.

12News spoke with several neighbors in the area. Many described their neighborhood as one that is not immune from the occasional shooting, but seeing and hearing what the video shows came as a surprise to them.

"I have five kids. I'm just worried that they can't even go outside and play," Ray Cosby said. "I didn't move to Arizona for that."

Cosby lives a few blocks away from the scene of the shooting, but heard the gunfire loud and clear.

"I was up way late that night, pacing around the house, making sure the doors are logged, checking my own ring cameras," he said.

Cosby has a unique perspective on hearing volleys of gunfire echo through his neighborhood. He's a combat veteran, who has served multiple tours overseas.

“I definitely don't want to be in Afghanistan again, so I really don't want to hear shots every night," Cosby said.

No other injuries have been reported and damage to nearby properties is remarkably sparce.

Glendale police say their investigation into this shooting continues. They are asking for anyone with information on who is involved to contact them. If you wish to remain anonymous, they say you can contact Silent Witness as well.
