PHOENIX — A Phoenix woman is being investigated in connection with the murders of her mother and her boyfriend, according to Maricopa County prosecutors.
Gabrielle Axon, 51, pleaded guilty to concealing her mom's dead body in Mesa back in 2022. After being released from prison this month, she was immediately arrested for fraud allegations involving her dead boyfriend.
According to arrest documents obtained by 12News, in August 2022 Axon traveled to Kingman, where her mom, Brenda Marshall, 71, lived.
The documents say Marshall's roommate later came home and found a handwritten note he believed was from Marshall. It said she was going to Tempe with her daughter to help her settle into her new place.
Documents then claim Marshall's other daughter tried to speak with her mother by calling Axon who reportedly kept telling her that their mother was either asleep or in the bathroom so she couldn't talk on the phone.
At one point, Axon reportedly impersonated her mother over the phone while talking to her sister, documents say
Around the same time, arrest documents claimed Axon was seen on security camera footage taking money from her mom's bank account by fraudulently using her card.
The Kingman Police Department activated a Silver Alert for Marshall.
That same month, police officers found Marshall's car in an east Mesa parking lot. Officers found Marshall's decomposing body inside the car in a plastic tote and covered with items to conceal it.
Axon was arrested a month later in Glendale after being recognized while trying to sell her dead boyfriend's car.
Arrest documents related to that investigation reveal Axon sold the car to a Glendale resident after allegedly forging the car title into her name.
The court documents claim the buyer recognized Axon who was being sought by police and called 911.
Axon eventually pleaded guilty to concealing her mom's body.
Axon charged with fraud after spending dead boyfriend's money
Just a few weeks after Marshall's body was found, Axon reportedly called emergency crews to report her boyfriend was dead in his Phoenix home. When firefighters arrived, the document claims Axon didn't identify herself and left before police arrived.
The victim's brother told police that the victim's credit cards, jewelry, car and other belongings were missing. It's also reported that close to $8,000 was charged to the victim's credit cards after he died.
When Axon was arrested in her mom's case, she reportedly admitted to police that she did take all of those items after her boyfriend died and used the money to buy clothes, shoes and an iPad.
Axon now faces several charges related to fraud and was given a $50,000 cash-only bond.
At this time, Axon is not facing any charges related to murder. However, Mesa police said the case involving Axon and her mother is still under investigation.
