Arizona police ask for public's help finding New Year's Day murder suspect

Officers found 43-year-old Marcos Lugo Jr. dead in the roadway with "obvious visible signs of trauma," police say.

PHOENIX — Phoenix police are still searching for information and a suspect after a person was found dead on a roadway in south Phoenix.

Phoenix police officers responded to the area near 9th Street and Broadway Road on Jan. 1 at approximately 1:55 a.m. When officers got to the scene, they found 43-year-old Marcos Lugo Jr. dead in the roadway, with "obvious visible signs of trauma," police said.

Police said video surveillance — which depicts the assault and may be graphic for viewers — reviewed showed Lugo was assaulted in the roadway by an unknown person before being hit.
