Phoenix police continue search for 2022 shooting suspect

On Oct. 30 2022, police responded to the scene near 67th Avenue and Thomas Road for reports of a shooting. A 27-year-old man died from his injuries.

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Police Department and Silent Witness are asking the public for help in finding the shooting suspect from a 2022 incident.

On Oct. 30 2022, police responded to the scene near 67th Avenue and Thomas Road for reports of a shooting. When officers arrived on scene, they found a vehicle crashed into a fence with 27-year-old Leonel Pineda-Valdez injured in the driver's seat.

According to police, paramedics arrived to assist Pineda-Valdez but he was later pronounced dead.

During an initial investigation, detectives reportedly learned Pineda-Valdez was in a Walgreens parking lot in the area when a witness described a verbal fight that escalated into several rounds being fired from a gun.

After the shooting, police said the vehicle Pineda-Valdez was seen driving across 67th Avenue and crashed into a metal fence. Police said witnesses told investigators a suspect vehicle was seen leaving the area after the shooting.

Family members of Pineda-Valdez met with the media Wednesday to share their grief about the incident and ask the public to share any information they have that could lead to an arrest.
