PHOENIX — For the second time on Saturday, three Phoenix police officers were injured in a struggle with a suspect, the department announced.

The latest incident happened around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Fifth Avenue and McDowell Road.

Police said the officers were called due to a suspicious person who was possibly lighting things on fire. When the officers tried to talk to the person, a struggle ensued, and the officers were hurt.

All three officers received minor injuries. Two of them were taken to a nearby hospital to be evaluated and the third was being treated an urgent care clinic.

The suspect was taken into custody and is currently being interviewed and booked into the Maricopa County Jail on several counts of aggravated assault against a police officer.

The suspect has not been identified.

This comes less than 12 hours after a man was taken into custody after allegedly punching and biting three Phoenix police officers near the intersection of 1st Avenue and Van Buren Street.

This is a developing story and more details will be added as they are made available.
