The shooting happened around 6:47 Tuesday morning, police said. Details are limited at this time.

PHOENIX — Phoenix police were involved in a shooting Tuesday morning that left one man in the hospital. No officers were hurt, authorities said.

The shooting happened near 19th Avenue and Bethany Home Road around 6:47 on Tuesday morning.

Officers were responding to a report of "a man was holding a woman against her will at gunpoint at an apartment," police said.

According to police, officers arrived in the area and confronted the man, who was armed with a gun. The man fired his gun at officers from inside the apartment.

Police said an officer then returned fire at the man.

"The man was then seen leaving the apartment and jumping over a block wall into the ally," police said.

As the man was running down the alley, officers followed and issued commands to the man.

"It was at this time a different officer fired his duty weapon stopping the man’s actions," police said.

The man was taken to the hospital for treatment. He has non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The man has not been identified. Police said he would be booked into jail after he is released from the hospital.

The investigation is still active and information is limited at this time.
