PHOENIX — The driver and passenger of a vehicle involved in an attempted street race were arrested in Phoenix last Wednesday, Arizona Department of Public Safety said.
DPS troopers saw several vehicles set up to street race near Interstate 17 and McDowell Road, troopers said. The same vehicles were about to race at another location in Phoenix but were broken up by the police department's helicopter.
While a trooper was able to stop three of the vehicles, the fourth fled by running a red light and heading northbound on I-17, DPS said. The police chopper was able to follow the vehicle and saw the driver and passenger bail out. They were later arrested by police and charged with multiple felonies.
The driver of the vehicle, 29-year-old Isaac Garcia, had been arrested two weeks earlier for felony fight and possession of marijuana, troopers said.
