PEORIA, Ariz. — A Peoria man is facing first-degree murder charges after the death of his 2-year-old stepchild, the city's police department announced Tuesday.
The incident started on Oct. 24 when 26-year-old Hein Lwin reported that the child was choking on a cloth. First responders attempted life-saving measures and rushed the child to the hospital.
Investigators "determined [Lwin] physically abused the child multiple times, causing serious physical injuries," Peoria police said and Lwin was arrested that evening.
The child died days later on Oct. 27, and police escalated the charges Lwin was facing to first-degree murder.
He is also facing aggravated assault and child abuse charges. Police said he was arrested without incident.
