Mesa police shoot, kill suspect at apartment complex, no officers injured

PHOENIX — A suspect was shot and killed in an officer-involved shooting Wednesday morning in Mesa, according to Mesa PD. 

No officers were injured. The suspect was identified Thursday as 31-year-old Craig Dandy.

The shooting occurred near Dobson Road and Southern Avenue after officers responded to a report of a man walking around the complex holding a knife and yelling around 8 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Dandy was reportedly yelling for someone to "take their best shot," police said. 

Officers arrived on scene and were confronted by Dandy, who was reportedly brandishing two knives. 

Police said Dandy abruptly rushed at two officers while holding the knives before the shooting occurred.

Mesa PD said lethal and less lethal means were deployed. 

Dandy was pronounced dead at the scene.  

The investigation is ongoing.

No other information was immediately provided.
