Stabbing suspect shot and killed by Mesa police officer

The police department said the incident happened Wednesday evening near Price Road and Main Street.

MESA, Ariz. — Mesa police are investigating a shooting incident involving a police officer Wednesday evening near Price Road and Main Street, according to officials.

Police said the shooting happened after a woman was stabbed at a Mesa apartment complex.

Police have confirmed a male suspect is dead.

The incident began with a 911 call reporting a woman had been stabbed. Officers responded to the address and found the female victim, who later confirmed an additional woman was believed to be inside the apartment.

The stabbing victim was rushed to the hospital and is said to have non-life-threatening injuries.

Police also learned the suspect, a man armed with a knife, was in the balcony area of the apartment. The second woman was in the interior area of the apartment.

Officers began to attempt to get the suspect to comply and surrender.

At some point, the suspect went back inside the apartment. Shortly after, the suspect was shot by officers.

Additionally, officers, at the time of the shooting were able to secure the second woman and safely remove her from the apartment.

Police said all of the people involved are members of the same family.

According to police, they are a grandmother, mother and son.
