MESA, Ariz. — Editor's note: The above video is from an earlier newscast.

A suspect was arrested Monday night for allegedly shooting two people at a Mesa hotel, killing one and severely injuring the other.

Anthony Wayne Gushee, 44, was arrested for allegedly shooting and killing 28-year-old Aaron James Miller and injuring the unidentified woman at the Windemere Hotel.

The woman told police that Gushee shot them because he thought they stole his drugs.

During a search, police found methamphetamine packaged for sale and numerous syringes containing a liquid substance.

Gushee was taken into custody without incident. When asked about the crime he requested an attorney and invoked his right to remain silent.

Gushee has a prior history of drug related offenses, Mesa PD said.

Gushee has been charged with one count of second degree murder and one count of aggravated assault.

The investigation is ongoing.
