PHOENIX — Two Phoenix men and a man from Mexico are headed to prison after they were convicted in a case involving the trafficking of machine guns.

The United States Attorney's Office said Alfredo Macias, 20, Daniel Alfredo Galvan, 20, both of Phoenix, and Jesus David Vega-Rivera, 26, of Mexico pleaded guilty to charges against them earlier this year.

"Macias and Galvan negotiated with another person to purchase machineguns, with the intention of trafficking those firearms to Mexico," the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

Officials said text messages were exchanged between the parties that depicted the weapons and cash.

The parties then met in person for the exchange with Vega-Rivera showing up with cash to purchase the machine guns.

ATF agents then arrested the three, officials said.

Macias was sentenced to 21 months in prison and 36 months of supervised release for possession or transfer of a machine gun

Vega-River was sentenced to 21 months in prison and 36 months of supervised release for conspiracy to possess or transfer a machine gun

Galvan was sentenced to 42 months and 36 months of supervised release for possession or transfer of a machine gun.
