Man found shot and killed in north Phoenix

The man was found near the southbound Black Canyon Access Road in an area just north of Cactus Road.

PHOENIX — Police are investigating a homicide after a man was found dead with a bullet wound in north Phoenix, according to authorities.

The Phoenix Police Department said the man's body was found early Tuesday morning near the southbound Black Canyon Access Road in an area just north of Cactus Road.

Officers responded to the area at around 6:20 a.m. after reports of an injured person. The man was pronounced dead on the scene.

 "During autopsy, the man was found to have a gunshot wound from a small caliber firearm which resulted in his death," police said in a news release.

The man has been identified as 70-year-old William Mielke.

Police said the man's death is still under investigation.

Individuals who submit tips that lead to an arrest or indictment in the case can get a reward of up to $1,000.
