TEMPE, Ariz. — A teenager was arrested after he allegedly shot and killed a man who stopped to help when a car crash happened near Tempe Town Lake, police announced Wednesday.
Police were called to the scene near Loop 202 and Scottsdale Road on May 8 after a car crash involving a Dodge Dart and a Hyundai sedan ended with gunshots.
A man witnessed the crash and stopped to help, but he was shot when a fight broke out, police said. The victim has been identified as 22-year-old Joseph Delegge.
Investigators say five juveniles in the Hyundai fled after the crash, and Delegge stopped to help the driver of the Dodge.
Delegge and the driver confronted three of the juveniles at a nearby parking lot. Police say Delegge had a handgun in his waistband and ordered the juveniles to stay while he called 911.
A fourth passenger of the Hyundai showed up and confronted Delegge. When Delegge took his eyes off him, police say 17-year-old Antonio Misquez pulled out a revolver and shot Delegge in the face.
Delegge was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
The juveniles all fled the scene, but they were all arrested by the Tempe Police Department
Misquez was booked into Durango Holding Facility and faces multiple felonies, including murder.
Delegge's father, Louis, said anyone interested in helping the family during this time can donate to the family's GoFundMe here.
