Phoenix police make arrest in connection to fatal September shooting

Police said the shooting happened near 27th Avenue and Indian School Road.

PHOENIX — Police have made an arrest in connection with a deadly west Phoenix shooting that happened in late September.

The Phoenix Police Department said the shooting happened Sunday, Sept. 24, before 5 p.m. near 27th Avenue and Indian School Road.

Officers arrived to find 35-year-old Maurice Jamal Edwards suffering from a gunshot wound. Edwards was taken to the hospital where he later died.

The shooter reportedly left the scene before police arrived, and authorities turned to the public for more information on the incident.

As the investigation progressed, police identified 67-year-old Bobby Roberts as a suspect in the shooting. Roberts was arrested on Oct. 2, and was booked into jail, facing possible charges of murder and misconduct involving weapons.

Police have not disclosed a motive behind the shooting, and it is unclear if Roberts and Edwards knew each other.

This is a developing story; additional details will be added as they become available.
