Man travels from California to Arizona to ambush ex-wife, children, officials say

SURPRISE, Ariz. — A man who allegedly attempted to stab his ex-wife in Surprise was indicted for attempted murder as well as other related charges, according to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office.

Garrett Headrick traveled from California to Arizona on Oct. 19 to ambush his ex-wife and her kids when they were leaving their house. According to the news release from the county attorney, Headrick allegedly dragged his ex-wife by her hair into the house and repeatedly slapped and strangled her.

Headrick also attempted to stab his ex-wife. All of this was done in front of the children, the news release states. 

On Oct. 25, a grand jury indicted Headrick on the following charges:

  • One count of attempt to commit second-degree murder, a class two Dangerous felony
  • Four counts of kidnapping, a class two felony
  • Three counts of aggravated assault, a class three dangerous felony
  • One count of disorderly conduct, a class one misdemeanor
