MESA, Ariz. — Police have arrested a suspect in a Mesa homicide that happened earlier this month.
The Mesa Police Department said Mario Ortiz Jr., 21, is facing multiple charges in connection with the death of 29-year-old Kenneth Gordon.
Police found Gordon dead at an apartment near Power Road and Main Street after they were called out for a welfare check just before 8:30 a.m. on Feb. 4.
Police said they believed Gordon's death was suspicious. The death would later be ruled a homicide after the medical examiner found Gordon had two puncture wounds on his right thigh.
Ortiz was identified as a suspect by investigators, police said.
Mesa police arranged to interview Ortiz after it was discovered he was being held by Phoenix police on a felony parole warrant.
During the interview, Ortiz said several things that placed him at the scene of the homicide, police said.
Ortiz was arrested on the following warrants:
- One count of second-degree murder
- One count of armed robbery
- One count of first-degree burglary
- Felony parole warrant
