Hector Bautista, 42, and another man tried to rob Anton Matous in 2003 and shot him, officers said.

On January 11, 2003, officers were called to the area of 41st Street and McDowell Road where they found Matous suffering from a gunshot wound. Matous was taken to the hospital but later died.

Local and federal law enforcement officials have been trying to arrest and extradite Bautista since 2003.

Bautista was extradited to Phoenix and arrested Friday morning.

Bautista was charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery. The second suspect in this case was arrested and charged in 2003 and has since been convicted of crimes tied to the case.
