TEMPE, Ariz. — An East Valley neighborhood that has been on edge for a month can rest easier after Tempe Police arrested a man accused in a string of sexual and aggravated assaults on Saturday.
The department announced that they and the U.S. Marshals Arizona arrested 24-year-old Djimon Boggs in connection to the attacks.
"We are immensely grateful for the unwavering dedication and tireless efforts of our officers, investigators, and our invaluable partners at the state and federal level," Tempe Police Chief Kenneth McCoy said in a press release. "Together, we have successfully apprehended the sexual assault suspect connected to the recent incidents. This achievement would not have been possible without the collective strength, support, and trust of our incredible community. Thank you for your vigilance, cooperation, and commitment to keeping Tempe safe.”
The string of attacks began on September 15 when a man walked through an open garage door and approached a woman in the home while she was sleeping. However, he was startled by her roommate and ran out.
Then, on October 6, at about 3:30 a.m., an assault in the same area was reported, but the suspect got away before police arrived.
The third incident happened on October 12 just before 6 a.m. at a home in the same area as the other two. Tempe Police say a man entered a home through an unlocked door and tried to assault a sleeping resident, but, as in the first incident, he was startled by a roommate and ran away.
The neighborhood where these attacks took place is less than a mile east of ASU's Tempe campus and is home to many ASU students.
The investigation is still ongoing.
