PHOENIX — A 30-year-old woman is dead and a 23-year-old man is behind bars after a head-on car crash in Phoenix late Wednesday.
The Phoenix Police Department said Martez Lyle Begay allegedly drove under the influence, causing the crash near 20th Street and Highland Avenue around 9:30 p.m.
Begay was driving a 2016 Chevrolet pickup truck southbound on 20th Street just south of Highland when he drove the vehicle left of center while he prepared to turn left into a driveway.
He allegedly crashed head-on with a northbound 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by a 30-year-old woman.
The woman was taken to a local hospital, where she died of her injuries.
Neither Begay nor his passenger were injured.
Police said Begay displayed signs and symptoms consistent with impairment.
He was later booked into the Maricopa County jail and charged with manslaughter.
