LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. — A man is dead after he "opened fire" on Lake Havasu City officers investigating a missing person case.
The man who was killed has been identified as Patrick Neal Champion, 61, he was not the missing person officers were looking for.

The Lake Havasu City Police Department said the shooting happened Wednesday at around 11 a.m. in the Craggy Wash area.

Police said the shooting occurred while officers "were conducting a follow-up on a missing person case" in the area.
When officers arrived on scene they found Champion inside the missing person's truck. Officers said Champion fired at officers before driving the truck into a patrol car.
Champion then got out of the truck and detectives continued to fire, killing Champion, officers said.
According to police, some of the detectives investigating the missing person case suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash and were taken to the hospital. The detectives were, however, not injured by gunfire.
Police expect to release further details at a later date.
