Kyler Renner sentenced to prison for assault, drug crimes

Renner assaulted a teen at a parking garage in Gilbert in 2022.

PHOENIX — A man who was involved in an East Valley teen violence case and was charged with drug-related crimes has been sentenced to prison, Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced Thursday.

Kyler Renner, 18, was sentenced to two years in prison Thursday after pleading guilty to aggravated assault, possession of drug paraphernalia and solicitation to commit possession of narcotic drugs for sale.

“This defendant had a high negative influence in the juvenile community not only committing violent crimes but also distributing dangerous drugs to the community,” said County Attorney Rachel Mitchell.

The aggravated assault claim stems from a 2022 case where Renner assaulted a teen at a parking garage in Gilbert. During Renner's initial court appearance for the attack, prosecutors claimed brass knuckles were used in the attack.

Renner is alleged to be part of the "Gilbert Goon" group, some of whom are facing charges in the murder of Preston Lord.
