PHOENIX — The man who allegedly shot and killed a Phoenix police officer is facing first-degree murder and other felony charges after being indicted by a grand jury, according to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office.

MCAO announced Saul Bal, 41, has been indicted on the following charges:
- First Degree Murder, a Class One Dangerous Felony
- Attempt to Commit First Degree Murder, a Class Two Dangerous Felony
- Aggravated Assault, a Class Two Dangerous Felony
- Burglary in the First Degree, a Class Three Felony
- Misconduct Involving Weapons, a Class Four Dangerous Felony
Bal is accused of killing Officer Zane Coolidge and shooting and injuring Officer Matthew Haney in a shooting on Sept. 3. near McDowell Road and 16th Street.
Bal allegedly shot the two police officers during a pursuit after they caught him breaking into a car, the Phoenix Police Department said.
Coolidge died days after being shot and Haney is still recovering from his injuries.
A trial date for Bal has not been set.
