Grand jury indicts man accused of decapitating his mother in Glendale

The indictment charges the suspect with multiple felonies.

GLENDALE, Ariz. — WARNING: Some details in this article may be disturbing to some readers.

A grand jury has indicted the man who is accused of decapitating his mother in Glendale last week.

Alejandro D. Gonzalez, 25, was taken into custody after Glendale police found the remains of his mother, 49-year-old Teresa De Jesus Cruz Rubio, in the family's apartment on Sept. 27.

Gonzalez had been released from jail on unrelated charges less than 24 hours prior to his mother's murder, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

Court records show Gonzalez allegedly admitted to investigators that he was involved in his mother's violent death but claimed another man was also involved. Glendale police said last week they hadn't found evidence to suggest a second person partook in the violence.

The indictment against Gonzalez charges him with first-degree murder, evidence tampering and vehicle theft.

Gonzalez's indictment suggests the suspect allegedly tampered with the knives used in the homicide.

Gonzalez is being held on a $1 million cash-only bond.
