GOODYEAR, Ariz. — A Goodyear man allegedly impersonating a peace officer was arrested after a dead dog was found in his vehicle, along with methamphetamine.
David Zupancich, 40, left his dog inside a car with a single window cracked no more than one inch in Glendale. According to the Glendale police department, the dog was left unaccompanied with no food or water for an "extended period of time." The vehicle was off and parked in an uncovered parking spot, in the sun, on April 4. It was 81 degrees, court records show.
When Zupancich returned to the vehicle, the dog was found dead. Court documents state Zupancich was carrying a semi-automatic handgun in a holster and had handcuffs. He was also dressed in a peace officer hat and had a peace officer detective badge hanging around his neck.
Zupancich was also found to be in possession of meth and "drug paraphernalia," court documents said.
Zupancich was arrested on April 4 and is facing charges related to possession of drugs, possession or use of a weapon in drug offense, animal cruelty and impersonating a peace officer.
