LAS VEGAS — Chance Comanche, a former Arizona Wildcats player, is in FBI custody, accused of kidnapping and murdering a woman in the Las Vegas area, according to a release from the city police department.
Comanche, 27, was taken into custody on Friday by the FBI in Sacramento California and is pending extradition to Nevada.
According to the LVMPD, Comanche played a part in the disappearance of Marayna Rodgers earlier in December. Rodgers was reported missing on Dec. 7. Detectives learned that Rodgers had been out with friends two days prior and had a pre-arranged meeting with 19-year-old Sakari Harnden — Comanche's girlfriend.
Harnden was arrested on kidnapping charges on Dec. 13, and Comanche was arrested two days later. Based on "information obtained after the arrest," detectives found Rodgers' body in the desert near Henderson, Nevada.
Authorities accused Harnden and Comanche of killing Rodgers, and are pressing for open murder charges in addition to the kidnapping charge.
Comanche was a player for the Stockton Kings, an NBA G League affiliate of the Sacramento Kings, but was released from the team following his arrest. He played center for the University of Arizona's Arizona Wildcats from 2016-2017.
