NEBRASKA, USA — A Scottsdale man has been sentenced to 57 months in federal prison after he pleaded guilty to a crime involving a minor.
Nicholas Murphy, a former volunteer football coach for Desert Mountain High School, was sentenced last week in Nebraska after he admitted to enticing a teenager to travel from Omaha to Tucson to engage in a sexual act, court records show.
Murphy was indicted for the offense in 2023 and the Scottsdale Unified School District responded by ending his volunteering services with a freshman football team.
The defendant played football at Arizona State University and had a brief stint in the NFL.
Murphy was additionally sentenced to 10 years of supervision upon his release from prison. The defendant must also pay over $20,000 in fines.
