SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Former Arizona Cardinals running back Marcel Shipp faces domestic violence charges after a physical confrontation with a woman earlier in February in Scottsdale, according to police.
A Scottsdale Police Department spokesperson said Shipp, 39, was arrested Feb. 18 around 9:30 p.m. after police received a report that Shipp "pushed or hit the female subject resulting in her falling to the ground."
The incident was on a sidewalk in the Scottsdale Entertainment District, police said.
Shipp was booked on misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct charges, had his initial court appearance and was released from jail the following day.
Shipp played with the Cardinals from 2001-07, starting 11 games in each of the 2003 and 2005 seasons. He ran for 830 and 834 yards in those seasons, respectively, with six touchdowns in the 2003 season.
Shipp most recently coached running backs for the New York Jets.
