CHANDLER, Ariz. — A man has been arrested after police say he hit an elderly woman with his car while she was walking in a crosswalk and then left the scene, according to the Chandler Police Department.

The woman, who has been identified as 73-year-old Melinda Epperson, died from her injuries.

The crash happened on Nov. 27 just after 7 a.m. at Ocotillo Road and Paseo Trail in Chandler. An investigation revealed a man in a BMW sedan was traveling eastbound on Ocotillo Road when he hit the woman in the crosswalk. The driver fled the scene, police said.

Moments later, the suspect got into another crash after running a red light at McQueen and Ocotillo Roads. He again fled the scene of that crash, police said. Officers were able to track him down in the area and arrest him.

The suspect was identified as 26-year-old Keith Taylor. He is facing several charges including manslaughter, Chandler police said. Speed and impairment are considered to be factors in the crash.
