Suspect dead after police shooting in El Mirage

Police said they initially used a Taser, but the man broke free and threw a knife at an officer's head.

EL MIRAGE, Ariz. — El Mirage police said they are investigating an officer-involved shooting in which the suspect died Tuesday afternoon. 

It happened in the area of El Mirage and Cactus roads. 

The suspect was identified Thursday as 31-year-old Joshua Bacco.

Officers arrived on the scene after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a suicidal man, police said. The suspect at the scene was holding knives in his hands. 

The suspect was tased after being told to drop the knives and after approaching police, officers said. The suspect reportedly broke away from the Taser and threw a knife at an officer's head.

After continuing to approach police, one of the officers shot and killed him, police said

No officers were hurt during the incident. The investigation is ongoing.

The suspect has not yet been identified.
