GLENDALE, Ariz — A Tucson drug dealer has been sentenced to six years in prison after he sold fentanyl pills in Glendale to a teenager who would later die from an overdose.
Michael Fox, 29, was sentenced earlier this week in federal court after he pleaded guilty to distributing fentanyl, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office of Arizona.
Fox was indicted in 2021 after he was connected to the 2019 death of a 16-year-old girl. The defendant had sold the Arizona teen three fentanyl pills. About an hour later, the girl was found unconscious and not breathing. She died at the hospital and her death was attributed to overdosing on fentanyl.
The court would ultimately rule that Fox's pills were the cause of the victim's death, prosecutors said. Fox will be placed on supervised release for five years after completing his prison sentence.
In 2020-2021, the state health department reported 3,888 opioid-related overdose deaths in Arizona.
