Dispute between neighbors turns deadly in Surprise

The Surprise Police Department said the shooting happened on Monday at 5:30 a.m. in a neighborhood in the area of Greenway Road and Grand Avenue.

SURPRISE, Ariz. — A Surprise man has died after being shot multiple times during a dispute with a neighbor, according to authorities.

The Surprise Police Department said the shooting happened on Monday at 5:30 a.m. in a neighborhood in the area of Greenway Road and Grand Avenue.

Police have identified the victim as 20-year-old Xavier Elias.

Police said witnesses told investigators Elias had been involved in an argument where multiple people pulled out guns and started shooting. Elias was hit multiple times and was taken to the hospital by car. 

Elias died at the hospital from his injuries, police said. 

Police said Manuel Vera Gonzales has been taken into custody and is facing a charge of second-degree murder.

Calls to Silent Witness are answered 24/7 by a live person and submitted tips are accepted at all times. Submitted tips are then sent to the detective(s) in charge of the specific case.

Individuals who submit tips that lead to an arrest or indictment in the case can get a reward of up to $1,000.
