Man dies after being stabbed in central Phoenix

The Phoenix Police Department said the victim was stabbed Sunday night near 32nd Street and Thomas Road.

PHOENIX — A man has died after being stabbed in central Phoenix, according to authorities.

The Phoenix Police Department said Amador Vasquez, 44, was stabbed Sunday night before 7:30 p.m. near 32nd Street and Thomas Road.

Vasquez was taken to an area hospital where he later died.

Police said 32-year-old Tony Hill has been arrested in connection to the fatal stabbing. Hill told police the stabbing was allegedly done in "self-defense."

But evidence collected by investigators was inconsistent with Hill's claims, resulting in the suspect getting booked on pending charges of second-degree murder and evidence tampering.
