Court documents: Aryan Brotherhood member accused of murder in Phoenix

Court documents say the murder of Joshua Calkins was "green lit" after a drug dealer named Sherri Traux, who is associated with the Aryan Brotherhood, was robbed at gunpoint.

PHOENIX - Court documents obtain by 12 News detail the 2014 murder of Joshua Calkins.

The documents say Calkins was murdered by Charles Robbins in retaliation to the robbery of a drug dealer associated with the Aryan Brotherhood gang.

Court document say the murder of Calkins was “green lit” after a drug dealer named Sherri Traux was robbed at gunpoint.

Calkins was affiliated with the Aryan Brotherhood and had tattoo that identified him with the gang, according to court documents. Robbins is also a member of the gang.

According to court paperwork, Robbins conspired with other gang members to get back at Calkins after the robbery. Robbins asked Calkins over to an apartment to help move some furniture. When Calkins got to the apartment he was attacked with the blunt side of an axe. Calkins was knocked out by the blow and then tied up.

The court paperwork says he was beaten for most of the day and seen by several different witnesses. One witness, that was not identified in the court paperwork, said Calkins was bound and gagged but conscious.

“His eye looked like they were asking for help” said the unnamed witness. That witness goes on to say Calkins was alive when he left the apartment.

At some point during the day Robbins got a call from a someone in the gang with enough power to order the murder, court paperwork said. Another witness in the paperwork said Robbins snapped Calkins neck after the call.

Robbins and another unnamed participant rapped Calkins body in a rug and put it on a couch, according to court documents. They then took the couch out and dumped it in an alley.

Phoenix police say this is an ongoing investigation into the murder and gang activity.

Charles Robbins has been charged with murder, tampering with evidence and being part of criminal syndicate.
