Court docs: Phoenix dad on meth arrested for leaving 5-year-old in hot car

Witnesses found the child in the car sweating, according to court documents.

PHOENIX - A father was allegedly on meth when he left his 5-year-old stepson in a hot car, according to court documents.

Isaac Smith was arrested and charged with child abuse Thursday after witnesses saw a child sweating in a hot car when it was 86 degrees out, according to court documents. Smith left his stepson in a car parked at Kids Care Pediatrics and Family Care near 7th Avenue and Thomas Road.

According to court documents, Smith ran away when he came back to the car. The child was outside the car at this point and yelled for Smith to not leave him.

Officers later found Smith, who admitted to leaving the child in the car. He told officers that he had smoked methamphetamine earlier in the day and was confused when he left his stepson, the documents said.

Smith apologized and said there was no excuse for his actions. He was booked in Fourth Avenue Jail on child abuse charges.
