Woman arrested after 'violent death' of 93-year-old roommate in Cordes Lakes

The YCSO said Bridget Nelson was arrested on Friday in connection with the homicide of Carl Miller.

CORDES LAKES, Ariz — A woman has been arrested in Cordes Lakes after her 93-year-old roommate was discovered in their home after suffering a "violent death," according to authorities.

The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that Bridget Nelson, 59, was arrested on Friday in connection with the homicide of Carl Miller after his body was found by deputies during a welfare check.

The sheriff's office was contacted by an acquaintance of Miller after he had not been heard from in a couple of days.

The deputy conducting the welfare check reported that Nelson told them Miller "had driven out of town," YCSO said.

"The deputy followed up with the initial caller to relay the story told by Bridget Nelson," YCSO said. "The initial caller told the deputy that the victim’s truck was still in the driveway, which was apparently inoperable."

Deputies then made another trip to the home to question Nelson. During that visit, the deputies "noticed through a window a man lying on the ground motionless."

Nelson then was ordered by deputies to come out of the house, which she complied with after several requests, YCSO said.

"YCSO detectives and evidence technicians entered the home to find that the victim had been deceased for at least a day and initial evidence showed the victim had died a violent death with his wounds indicating foul play," YCSO said.

Nelson was arrested and booked into the Yavapai County Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder.
