CHANDLER, Ariz. — An arrest has been made in the shooting that took place at The Shoppes at Casa Paloma, on the southwest corner of Ray Road and Priest Drive in Chandler Friday night.
Chandler police officers responded to a disorderly subject in the area of 7100 West Ray Road. According to police, the suspect was reported to be demonstrating disorderly behavior toward other citizens in the parking lot.
When officers arrived, an officer contacted the suspect in a vehicle and saw she had an unholstered firearm near her. The suspect was given commands not to touch the weapon, but she did not comply with the commands, police said.
The suspect grabbed the weapon and made a “threatening move with it” toward the officer, police said. The officer then fired two shots at the suspect that struck her in the upper chest. The suspect was then taken into custody and medical aid was provided, police said. The officer was uninjured.
The suspect was identified as 50-year-old Renata Eldred. After she was treated and released from the hospital, she was booked into Maricopa County Jail on charges of disorderly conduct and aggravated assault.
Court records show that Eldred currently has an assault against an officer case from January 2022 in front of the Maricopa County Superior Court. According to court records, Eldred had a status conference hearing on November 2 that she failed to show up for.
