CHANDLER, Ariz. — A Chandler man is facing an animal abuse charge after he recorded himself throwing a pet dog off a balcony in order to "get a reaction" from his wife, court documents state.
The incident happened around 9:30 in the morning on Monday. Robert Pacheco, 53, reportedly filmed himself pulling he and his wife's pet poodle out of its kennel, grabbing it by the neck and throwing the animal into a large bush "out of sight" from the first-floor balcony.

Pacheco was arrested roughly 30 minutes later.
In a post-arrest interview, Pacheco allegedly admitted to police that he filmed himself throwing the dog and sent his wife the video in order to "get a reaction" from her. Documents state that there was no indication Pacheco was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident.
As part of his release conditions, Pacheco was forbidden from owning, living with or having any contact with any animals, regardless of whether or not he owned them.
Authorities did not say what condition the poodle was in following the incident.
