PHOENIX — Nearly a month after a Phoenix man was shot and killed in his car, police have arrested two teens in connection with his murder.

On May 28 at about 8 a.m., Phoenix police officers were called to do a welfare check after a woman called and said she found her boyfriend, 22-year-old Carlos Mercado Chavez, shot to death in his car.

The shooting happened on the 2900 block of East Michael Drive, which is just east of the intersection of 28th Street and Greenway Road.

As detectives investigated, they identified two suspects, a teenager who is under the age of 18 and 19-year-old Derrick Teague.

Officers were able to locate Teague and take him into custody on June 21. The other teen was arrested on June 22.

Both of them were booked into jail on multiple felony counts, including murder and armed robbery.

Police do not believe anyone else was involved in this case.
