Body found in Phoenix alleyway after fire crews extinguish fire

The death is being investigated as a homicide, police said.

PHOENIX — A body was found in an alleyway in Phoenix early Wednesday after fire crews put out a fire. 

The Phoenix Police Department said officers were called to the area of 27th Avenue and Thomas Road just off Interstate 17 around 2:45 a.m. to help the Phoenix Fire Department. 

The fire department responded to a call of a fire in the alley and while they were extinguishing the fire, they found a human body. 

The death is being investigated as a homicide, police said. 

The identity of the body was not immediately known. The Office of the Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.

Detectives are on scene and the investigation is ongoing.
