Man fleeing police shot and killed by Phoenix officers

Officials said the incident happened Wednesday night near 19th Avenue and Buckeye Road.

PHOENIX — Two officers shot and killed a fleeing man in Phoenix late Wednesday night, the city's police department said.

The officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a potential domestic violence situation near the intersection of 19th Avenue and Yavapai Street, the department said. There, they found a man and woman in their mid-twenties.

The man, identified as 26-year-old Juan Reynoso, fled from police when officers attempted to detain him, police said. The officers shot the man while he was fleeing after he allegedly armed himself with a gun and refused to listen to officers' commands to drop the weapon.

Police later found that the weapon the man allegedly armed himself with was a replica gun.

Reynoso was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

This is a developing story; additional details will be added as they become available.
